Kenya is celebrating a historic moment as middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon clinched the Women's World Athlete of the Year Award.
The ceremony held in Monaco on Monday, December 11, saw President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leading the nation in celebrating Kipyegon's exceptional achievements.
In a statement on his X account, Ruto praised Faith Kipyegon, commending her as a symbol of excellence, versatility, and purpose.

Gachagua echoed the sentiments, noting the exceptional year Kipyegon has had, marked by multiple world records.
"It has been a year of massive World Records for our sterling star, Faith Kipyegon, who showed what grit, hard work, persistence, and determination can deliver," Gachagua remarked.
"To crown the year by being named the World Athlete of the Year- Women's Track Events confirms what a true jewel Faith is to our country. As the first Kenyan female athlete to win this accolade, tonight we heartily celebrate her inspirational achievement," he added.
Other athletes were also recognized for their remarkable achievements.
Kelvin Kiptum was named the World Athlete of the Year for Men's Out of Stadia events and earned accolades for setting a new World Marathon Record.
Gachagua extended his congratulations to rising stars Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Faith Cherotich, who were named Male and Female Rising Stars, respectively.
