A Nairobi court has allowed Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives to continue detaining the owner of the Embakasi gas refill plant and two National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) suspended officials for 21 days pending investigations.

A ruling rendered by Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego granted a plea by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and DCI detectives to continue holding businessman Derrick Kimathia and three NEMA officials Joseph Makau and Marian Mutete Kioko for three weeks at Embakasi police station pending completion of investigations into Thursday's night deadly explosion.

She however suspended NEMA official David Warunya On'gare who is said to be suffering from a critical medical condition to be detained for 10 days at Capitol Hill police station pending a probe.

"I find the application by the state to continue holding the suspects is merited and l hereby allow it," Magistrate Alego ruled.
