The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) is set to give a directive to law enforcement on how to handle educational imposters and individuals who have secured jobs with fake degrees.

In an update on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the anti-graft commission will give the regulations guided by a report from the Public Service Commission (PSC) on the Authentication of Academic and Professional Certificates in the Public Service.

The report follows an authentication exercise undertaken by PSC, which revealed numerous cases of public officials who forged academic and professional certificates to secure government jobs and promotions.

"Today, EACC Chairperson David Oginde, and CEO Twalib Mbarak, together with the Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed I. Amin, will receive from the Public Service Commission (PSC)  a Report on the Authentication of Academic and Professional Certificates in the Public Service, to inform law enforcement actions against public officials with fake academic certificates," EACC stated.

Notably, EACC warned that it shall recover all salaries and benefits earned based on fake academic qualifications and stated that offenders will be liable to criminal prosecution.

“We will have to recover all the money you got through that process, even if you worked 20 years, we will want all the money you earned during that time,” Bishop Oginde said.
