A Muslim cleric has asked the Kadhi’s court to reject a divorce application filed by his wife, citing inadequate reasons to terminate the marriage.

Sheikh Khamis Mwinyi, who has accused his wife Mwanatumu Mohamed of infidelity, said he still loved her and will not accept a divorce.

Mwinyi, who is the secretary general of the Kenya National Muslim Advisory Council (Kemnac), said they have been married for two years and he has been a responsible husband and is still playing his roles as required.

“I want her to remain my wife, I will not accept this divorce because there is no genuine reason for divorce. I am ready to take care of the children she came with before we got married,” he told the court yesterday.

However, Mwanatumu said the marriage could not be salvaged claiming her husband had been mistreating her three children.

The Kadhi directed the two to seek help of a Muslim cleric or elders before the matter is mentioned on August 1.
