Michael Macharia, popularly known as DJ Brownskin, who is facing charges of aiding the suicide of his wife has been freed on Ksh 100,000 cash bail.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ordered the release of DJ Brownskin on an alternative bond of Ksh200,000 after failing to find compelling reasons to continue detaining him.

"I find that the pre-bail report table in court favours the accused persons herein by confirming that he has a well know fixed abode by the state. This to me confirms the accused is not a flight right and l will grant him bond terms as per the law," Onyina ruled.

DJ Brownskin's plea to have the Ksh50,000 earlier deposited in Makadara Court to be used as cash bail in the current matter has also flopped.

This is after the court advised him to pursue the said money in the Makadara Law Courts.

DJ Brownskin, who has been in custody for 14 days, was charged with three charges of aiding suicide, neglect to prevent a felony and destroying evidence by deleting the videos he had uploaded on his social media regarding the suicidal incident of his wife Sharon Njeri at their house in July 2022.

He was arrested early last month after a video surfaced in April and went viral showing what appeared to be him recording his wife taking poison.

The case will be mentioned on June 22
