Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Friday, March 20, issued new orders to transport service providers, supermarket managers and entertainment joint owners.

The minister said the directives are measures put in place by the Government to minimise the spread of COVID-19. Kenya, as of Friday, had seven confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 44 suspected carriers posting negative results on tests for the dreaded disease.

-Supermarkets-

All supermarkets ordered to limit number of shoppers at every given time to comply with recommended social distancing space of 1.5 meters, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says, directing buyers to restrict themselves to one person per family.

-Transport service providers-

All 14-seater matatus ordered to carry a maximum of 8 passengers; 25-seater PSVs to carry a maximum of 15 travellers; and those with a 30-plus capacity (including trains), to restrict to 60% occupancy of number of seats, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe orders.

-Entertainment joints-

All entertainment joints in Kenya, including bars and nightclubs, to close business by 7:30pm beginning Monday, March 23, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe orders.
