In a heart-wrenching revelation, it has now come to light that Charity Kate Oor, a bright and promising student from Ebenezer Academy in Busia County, who died following a road accident at Kaburengu along the Webuye-Eldoret Highway, had secured a scholarship to pursue her studies in the United States.

Charity, aged 9, was involved in a fatal accident that occurred on June 24 when the students were returning from an educational tour in Eldoret.

A lorry collided with their school bus, causing it to overturn. Charity and three other students lost their lives instantly, while four others succumbed to their injuries during their hospitalization.

During a funeral held at their residence in Busire, Bumala town, Busia County, Charity's parents, Marcus Oor and Lilian Oor, shared heartwrenching details about their daughter's bright future.

Oor said his daughter was scheduled for a visa appointment at the US embassy in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

The grieving father expressed profound grief and bewilderment, questioning the cruel twist of fate that snatched away their beloved child.

“I was to pick my visa and that of my daughter to allow us to travel to the US, but here I am burying my child,” said Oor who teaches in the US," the father said.

He mourned the fact that instead of preparing for an exciting journey with his daughter, he found himself laying her to rest.

“It pains my heart. I am asking myself why this had to happen?”

Both parents fondly remembered Charity as an intelligent, disciplined, and hardworking girl who always aimed for excellence.

“She did things that were just beyond her age. She wanted to try everything, and always wanted to be the best,” said the family.

Leaders from Busia County, including Governor Paul Otuoma, Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga, Acting County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto, and various county chief executive committee members were among leaders who attended the requiem mass organised in honour of the seven victims of the road accident.
