The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has revealed that over 680,000 identification cards (IDs) remain unclaimed and uncollected in different government offices.

In a statement on Friday, February 9, 2024, the Ministry said the IDs are lying in the Department of the National Registration Bureau (NRB).

(We currently have a total of 683,814 unclaimed and uncollected IDs. These are available at all NRB Registries located within our national offices, administrative offices and Huduma Centres.)," the Ministry stated.

The Ministry has urged all Kenyans who had made applications for the IDs to visit the offices where they made the application to collect the documents or complete any pending process.

(Please visit this register in your area of application and contact the Office of Regional Heads to process any pending cases.)," the Ministry added.

Pending IDs applications

This comes amidst reports that over 600,000 applications for the important document have yet to be processed in the last two-and-half months, with the number increasing every day.

It is estimated that over 200,000 Kenyans apply for the document every month, with the number of pending applications almost hitting one million soon.
