A family in Gatundu is mourning the killing of their 22-year-old kin, Simon Nganga.

Simon was working in the National Youth Service (NYS) in Yatta, Machakos before meeting his death through his killers.

Speaking to a local media station, the family narrates that the late Simon went missing two days before his body was found dumped in a garden near the NYS Yatta camp, while still fully geared up in the NYS uniform.

The deceased's mother Cecilia Wanjiru says she received the dreadful phone call on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at around 8.30 pm.

The caller, who according to Wanjiru was the deceased boss, an NYS commander, broke the news of the discovery of Simon's lifeless body after the two-day desperate search.

In her distress, Wanjiru narrates that they made their way to the NYS camp, where they confirmed the sad news as their new reality.

On posing questions to the NYS commanders in Yatta regarding the death of her son, Wanjiru explains that the statements by the two NYS commanders who addressed their questions did not hold water, as they were extremely contradicting.

"We went to the NYS camp and confirmed that the news was indeed true. We went ahead to ask several questions and the two responses we received from the two commanders were very different," mother to the late Simon narrated.

Another relation to the deceased also narrated that she was dumbfounded by the happenings, further poking holes to the NYS commander's statements.

The relative said that she was puzzled to hear the contradicting statements, bearing in mind that the officers were on site and they identified the body.

"Hakuna vile mnaweza kuwa mlimuona, mko on scene mmeona mwili and the information yenye mnapatiana, kila mtu ako an information yake yake," the deceased relative explained.

The said relative also complained that their cry for justice had only been met by rude statements from the NYS officials.

She complained that the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also informed the family to 'stop seeking answers from the NYS camp but to follow it up with the DCI office instead', a statement that appeared not to sit well with her.

"Then inafika mahali inakuwa, they are so rude, they are so hard, hata DCI anasema hatufai kuuliza maswali watu was NYS, tunafaa kuuliza DCI mwenyewe," she said.

The family now wants to know who or what killed their beloved, the late Simon Ng'ang'a, with a deeper focus resulting from the inconsistent statements from the NYS officials.

Saddened by the reality of the loss of their kin, the family is now moaning coupled with a deep urge to unravel who or what killed the late Simon Ng'ang'a.

They swim in hope that the law will take its course, to bring Simon's killers to book.

DCI on death of NYS officer

The office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been very vocal and punctual to update Kenyans on the happenings in regard to security in the country.

On their Twitter page, the DCI has been very expressive, narrating stories of arrested criminals, murders, impounded firearms, drugs and other criminal happenings that they have handled.

With clear and concise words, the Twitter handle shares details of the happenings as how and where they happened, forgetting not to include the action that has or is been taken by the DCI officers.

One would thus assume that the late Simon's missing would have been shared with the public after he went missing for two days, but that remains an assumption because the missing and death of the late man from Gatundu did not make it to the DCI's list of updates.

A second assumption would be that the office of the DCI missed out on the NYS officer's death story because they had not been brought to speed with the unfortunate incident.

However, the assumption is nullified by the family members of the late Simon, who alleged that the DCI is aware of the gruesome murder of their lost loved one.
