2023 was marked by turmoil, tragedy and triumph.

The year offered diverse happenings that captured significant moments; some provoking distress and some prompting hope and delight.

From nationwide blackouts that triggered retaliation from our neighbouring countries to maandamano which ended the lives of several civilians and the horrors of Shakahola mass graves that burst into our consciousness.

This year, we also witnessed the obscurity of KCPE results and glory in the fields as Sports Person of the Year Faith Kipyegon broke various records and CECAFA under 18 restored hope in our football arena.

The Kenya Kwanza government hit one year in office, but what to show besides the over 40 foreign trips taken by the Head of State, President William Ruto?

The ruling by the Supreme Court allowing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community to formally register their association shaped the future of the community in the country.

Various leaders including the US First Lady Jill Biden and the British Monarch toured the nation and expressed their profound sorrow over the pains and tribulations of the colonial era.

As all these moments unravelled, water droplets gradually condensed in the clouds causing torrential rains-El Nino and eventual flash floods which wreaked havoc in various parts of the country.

Here are some of the remarkable pictures that captured the top stories of the year;
