Ruiru residents have a reason to smile after former President Uhuru Kenyatta pledged to donate Ksh1 million for the Christmas festivities.

This, he said in a surprise phone call with Jesus Compassionate Ministry(JCM) founder Pastor Ben Kiengei, during a fundraising event for the less fortunate as holidays beckon.

In a short clip, Kiengei, while standing on the pulpit, made the surprise call to Uhuru and put him on the loudspeaker to speak to the congregants.

"Ruiru people, I hope you are well. Your pastor called and informed me he was hosting you for Christmas and asked me to help him. I promised him I would not abandon my people.

"I will donate Ksh 1 million so he can buy more foodstuff for more people," Uhuru noted while sending his Merry Christmas wishes to all Kenyans.

"Thank you so much. May God bless you and protect you and your families," he stated

The quotes were loosely translated from his Kikuyu verbatim.

Further, the former Head of State promised to pay a visit to the church located along the Eastern By-pass.

JCM has been one of the fastest-growing religious organizations. It was introduced in April 2023.
