Kenyan gospel singer and pastor Ruth Matete was stunned when her daughter, Reyna Toluwa, recognized her late father, Pastor John Apewajoye.
Sharing a video of Toluwa holding a portrait of the late John, Matete revealed that she had never told her daughter about her father.
In the video, Toluwa can be seen holding a portrait of her late father.
The singer can be heard asking her daughter who the person in the portrait is. Much to her surprise, the young girl responded; "dad."
"I’m so shocked! I have never shown her this picture. I have never had a conversation with her about this topic. She saw the picture and said it was her dad😢. Tears just rolled down my face. I don’t know where I got the courage to record it. 😢," Ruth Matete captioned the emotional video.
Matete, a renowned gospel singer and pastor, shared her concerns about how to explain the absence of her late husband to her daughter, especially as Toluwa is at an age where she is beginning to understand family dynamics from the cartoons she watches.
"One day I will tell her about it. When she can understand stuff. But now am worried. She watches cartoons and sees a family is mum, dad, and sister and brother. What if she asks me now where Daddy is? Can she understand? What will I tell her? 😢 She can’t let go of the picture since she saw it. 🥰," Matete continued.
"Meanwhile, this Yoruba man was so hot. Chaaiii!! 🥰💛" she concluded.
Matete's husband, Pastor John Apewajoye, tragically passed away in 2020 due to burn injuries he sustained.
The couple tied the knot in 2019.
