Stand-up comedian Timothy Kimani whose stage name is Njugush has clapped back at singer Jua Cali for insinuating that he is not 'funny at all'.
Jua Cali opined that Njugush does not cut as among the funny comedians in Kenya after his viral video where Njugush was seen struggling to crack a joke during his recent Through Thick 'N' Thin #TTNT comedy show in Australia.
"Njugush ni boy wangu but hakuna comedian hapo, not funny at all," Jua Cali said.
In his response, Njugush shrugged off the haters stating that he is not moved by the negativity as he has chosen to focus on his die-hard fans who make up about 99.9 per cent.
The father of two questioned why various people were trying to pull him down now after staging four seasons of his TTNT comedy show.
Njugush likened the backlash and criticism to the hate he received when he caught the spotlight in a local drama show dubbed 'Real Housewives of Kawangware' saying it was not until Oscar award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o made a positive review that people changed their perception.
"It's the people that believe in what we do. Huezi niambia we have gone TTNT 1 to 4 na saa hii ndio inakua ati kuna by the ways. Art is very relative but that doesn't mean we are not working. For instance, the UK sold out. We were at the Real Househelps of Kawangware wakasema ni ya mamboch baadaye Lupita akasema iko sawa, wakakubali," he stated.
Adding;
"I want to focus on the 99.9% of supportive fans. My focus is to break boundaries. Let people create their niche. In the digital space, we don't have gatekeepers. Wasanii tusiogope."
Further Njugush revealed that the backlash has seen an influx of sales of his links noting; "We've never sold more links in 24 hours as we have."
Njugush and his wife Celestine Ndinda alias 'Wakavinye' have been touring Australia after selling out both UK and KICC shows.
They say #TTNT 5 will be coming shortly.
