Legendary Ugandan singer Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone is admitted to a hospital in the US in critical condition.

Chameleone is critically ill with recurring stomach complications - his father Gerald Mayanja confirmed.

Speaking during an interview with Bukedde TV, the musician's dad confirmed his son battling a stomach-related illness in the US following several reports online about the same.

Gerald said the musician has been suffering from the illness for several months and ultimately decided to undergo surgery while in America.

“Chameleone has been unwell for the past few months. The condition worsened when he moved to America, and now he is seriously ill, confined to his sickbed. He is undergoing treatment for complications in his stomach,” Chameleone’s father said.

The 'Badilisha' hitmaker travelled to the US in mid-June 2023 to attend his son Abba’s graduation ceremony.

He also visited Jamaica.

However, upon his return to the US, Chameleone was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Minnesota where he underwent emergency surgery.

Recurring stomach illness

Jose Chameleone has been in and out of hospitals multiple since 2015 when it was reported that he was having stomach complications.

In 2015, rumours swirled that Chameleone had issues with his liver and pancreas due to alcoholism.

The 'Valu Valu' singer was hospitalized in January 2021 in critical condition.

A source speaking to Dembe FM said that Chameleone checked into a hospital in the Seguku area on January 19, 2021.

According to the source, the singer had attempted to steering clear of spirits but was still drinking wine.

In August 2021, Chameleone fell ill again and was admitted to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.

Reports once again said the singer was battling a pancreas and liver-related disorder but his wife Daniella Atim revealed that he was suffering from H. pylori, a type of bacteria that infects the stomach and can damage the tissue in the gut and the first part of the small intestine.

"I'm proud of myself because I've mastered the art to stay calm during the storm," Daniella said."

In another post, she was angered by social media users who have been spreading her husband's hospital photo.

"But why are we all sharing that so unpleasant photo of our personal person? Do you guys realise he has children far from him whose emotional well-being you and me should protect? So I'm busy collected explaining to my child that Pylori is a bacterial infection that should clear with consistent treatment and you are all sharing a damn picture. Don’t we all have a happy picture of our favourite human?" Daniella ranted in a post on Instagram.
