Choosing a gift or activity for a father can be a tricky affair, because not all men like football or grilling meat. But when it comes to picking movies there is a genre for every dad. Ahead of Father’s Day, which will be celebrated on June 18, Imou Eparis lists ideal Father’s Day movies about fatherhood to enjoy with dads on this day

Daddy Day Care is a movie that is suited for the whole family. The themes explored include family, friendship, success and failure.

1. Fatherhood (2021)

Inspired by Matthew Logelin’s memoir, Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love.  Kevin Hart plays Matthew, a father who loses his wife after giving birth to their first child. Hart juggles grieving his wife and taking care of their baby at the same time. Expect a few light moments and parenting fails. The movie is rated PG-13.

2. About Time (2013)

For dads who like rom-coms, this movie has both a love story and a sweet father-son relationship. When Tim turns 21, he learns from his dad that the men in his family can travel through time. Naturally, Tim wants to use his powers to impress a girl, but he also gets a lot of guidance and advice from his dad along the way. The movie discusses issues such as fate versus the choices we make, growing through conflicts, how to time travel and overcome everyday problems.

3. Daddy Day Care (2003)

After losing his job, Charlie (Eddie Murphy) decides to open up a children’s daycare at his home. However, he struggles to keep his business afloat and it doesn’t help that he has a rival who is trying to shut the day care down. Daddy Day Care is a movie that is suited for the whole family. The themes explored, include family, friendship, success and failure.

4. Finding Nemo (2003)

This movie is a great watch for any age group. The animation is about an overprotective clown fish named Marlon, who is forced out of his comfort zone when his son, Nemo is caught by humans. The father is now forced to swim across the ocean in search of his son Nemo. The are many themes explored in this classic, some of them are family, friendship and perseverance.

5. Three Men and a Baby (1987)

The movie follows three roommates who go from being single bachelors to single dads when an abandoned baby suddenly appears on their doorstep. Even though taking care of the young girl proves to be quite difficult, they all develop an affection for her. The movie is rated PG.

6. Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)

If you think your family is hectic, think again. Cheaper by the Dozen follows a blended family of 12. The movie’s lead, Zach Braff, plays a restaurant owner and father who seeks to relocate his family to a spacious home in the suburbs.

7. Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Keep your handkerchief close for this one, Pursuit of Happyness is based on the true story of Chris Gardner. Chris is evicted from his apartment and he and his son are left with nowhere to go. Chris (Will Smith) eventually gets a job as an intern at a prestigious brokerage firm, but the position doesn’t pay. The pair endure many hardships, but Chris refuses to give into despair as he struggles to create a better life for himself and his son.  Smith gives an Oscar-worthy performance as Gardner while Smith’s real-life son Jaden plays his movie son.

8. Taken (2008)

This action-packed Thriller is about a dad who goes on a bloody path of revenge after his daughter is kidnapped while on vacation. Taken shows a devastating insight into the realm of drug abuse, human trafficking and prostitution. It also portrays the theme of a father’s unconditional love for his child.

9. The Game Plan (2007)

In this comedy, the life of a carefree sportsman is turned upside down when he discovers he has an eight-year-old daughter.  The movie goes on to show how a self-centred man works to become a love-centred dad. The Game Plan speaks very clearly about the importance of good parenting and the value of children.

10. Father of the Bride (2022)

A father must come to terms with his daughter’s impending wedding while keeping his impending divorce from his wife a secret. When they meet, the groom’s family cultures clash, generations take sides and competing traditions collide. The movie not only tackles the comedy and drama of a family wedding, such as in past adaptations, but also celebrates Latin culture in humorous and touching ways.
