Motorists plying Mlolongo route cautioned

The police boss cautioned all motorists against speeding and overlapping, saying the practices are a recipe for fatal accidents.

"Motorists and all road users have a responsibility to protect one another by adhering to traffic rules. We cannot allow unruly drivers to endanger the lives of people. Let all drivers be warned that observing traffic rules is not optional but a must. Those found violating the rules will not be spared and must face disciplinary action," he emphasized.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the overloaded bus had attempted to overlap before hitting the moving lorry.

" I was just about to cross the road when I saw a speeding bus overlapping. I had to take a few steps back to avoid being hit. Within a fraction of a second, I heard a loud bang before the bus rolled into a ditch," Alex Museu said adding that some of the passengers on the bus were standing.

Those who were injured were rushed to different hospitals including Shallom Community hospital and Machakos Level Five Hospital for treatment.

The body of the deceased was moved to Shallom Hospital morgue.
