After weeks of ‘Basmati babes’ dominating national headlines for drink spiking menace and an eventual SIM swapping fraud business, Kenyans need to be more vigilant and secure their lines from the fraudsters.
As most people continue to share their misfortunes in the hands of these notorious fraudsters, a few questions remain unanswered on how to secure your line.
The task has now shifted to the end-user to be more aware of the activities on their phones.
Here is how to protect your line from unauthorised SIM swap
For Safaricom users simply dial *100*100#OK.
This will stop any replacement of your Sim card from an agent shop.
For postpaid lines, however, their SIMs cannot be replaced at M-Pesa agents by default, they can only be replaced at a Safaricom shop or via email from the owner's email address.
Disclaimer: This will protect your line from being swapped casually at an M-Pesa shop. You will only be able to swap the SIM at the nearest Safaricom shop after providing an original ID.
Don't let fraudsters get away with your number & personal information. Whitelist your sim card today by dialing *100*100#. Click here to learn more https://t.co/zkpuJJ9MxA#JichanueAndTakeControl pic.twitter.com/kZzpK3lObV— Safaricom PLC (@SafaricomPLC) May 31, 2022
