Elvis Oluoch, who is the maternal nephew of the Late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, has termed as “unnecessary” DNA tests set to be conducted on her deceased uncle and Nairobi MCA Anne Thumbi’s 3-year-old son.

Speaking to Citizen Television on Saturday, August 3, outside the Lee Funeral Home, Oluoch said Ken Okoth’s mother, Angeline Ajwang Ongere, and the Late MP’s widow, Monica Okoth, knew about Ken’s son “from the first day the boy was born”.

Oluoch’s revelations come on the back of a tussle between Anne Thumbi, 31, and Ken Okoth’s wife over the need to incorporate the boy as a beneficiary to Okoth’s property.

The Magistrate’s court in Nairobi on Friday, August 2, allowed Ken Okoth’s DNA samples to be extracted and matched against that of Anita’s son in a bid to ascertain the boy’s paternity.

Thereafter, the families would agree on how the boy is incorporated in Okoth’s Will should it be discovered that he was sired by the late lawmaker, who died aged 41.

“As a family, we knew about Ken’s son. Anyone in our family claiming that he or she did not know about Ken’s son is a very big liar. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the whole country over the drama that played out concerning Ken’s son on Thursday at his memorial service in Nairobi,” Oluoch told Citizen Television.

The middle-aged man also took the opportunity to defend Ken Okoth’s mum, Angeline, from the controversy that surrounded her earlier claims that her son did not have a baby with any woman.

“Ken did not sire any child. I know many women will come out to claim they have at least a child with Ken,” Angeline Ajwang Ongere told K24 Digital at her home in Kibra on Tuesday.

And now, Oluoch says Ken Okoth’s mum was under duress when she “denounced her grandson”.

“Ken’s mum was confused due to the pressure she was receiving to say things that were not true. She is very sorry for what happened. I believe Ken’s mum really loves her grandson. We are urging Anita to bring Ken’s son to his grandmother so that we can embrace this child. He [Anita’s son] is our own; he is our blood, and we fully support her [Anita] for coming out and saying the boy is Ken’s child,” said Oluoch.

“I do not understand why they agreed to take Ken’s DNA samples; it is very clear the boy is Ken’s child. If you look at him, and look at Ken, they resemble each other, completely! The family, including Ken’s wife, Monica, knew this child. I can confirm to the country that Ken’s family was fully aware of the boy’s existence from the word go!” said Oluoch.

Ken Okoth died on July 26 after a 2-year battle with colorectal cancer.

The Late MP was cremated at Kariokor Crematorium on Saturday, August 3 at 3am, according to his wishes.
