A Primary School teacher has set himself on fire after receiving a termination letter over allegations of impregnating a pupil at the school.

The teacher from Magemo Primary School in Webuye, Bungoma County, committed the act early this morning after receiving the termination letter from his employers.

According to the school's security guard, Wycliffe Akeve entered the school through the fence at around 7:00 am before he reportedly engaged in a chit-chat with his colleagues.

"The teacher arrived in school around 7:00 am and gained entry through the backdoor," the school watchman noted.

Akeve would later lock himself up in the staff room before committing the heinous act.

While confirming the incident, Webuye East Assistant Commissioner, Peter Yego, noted that the teacher also allegedly tried to burn his colleagues.

According to the police boss, the teacher will face charges ranging from defilement, attempted murder, suicide, and destruction of public property.

The teacher is currently receiving treatment at a Bungoma hospital after suffering burn injuries.
