Police in Mombasa have arrested two suspects in connection to the murder of a teenage girl who went missing three days ago.

19-year-old Najma Abdullahi was discovered unconscious and with injuries on Friday, June 11 at a notorious crime spot in Bonje Mombasa.

Police arrested and are holding in custody a friend who the deceased was escorting and a driver who joined them later in connection to the murder.

Najma's family members allude to a case of kidnapping claiming that their kin was drugged before her captors took her away.

"She was with me before she left to escort a friend of hers. At around 7pm, I called her and she told me that she was on her way home. But wenty minutes later, I called Najma but her phone was off," Ifrah Abdullahi, the sister to the deceased told journalists.

While speaking to the media, family lawyer Fred Omondi said the deceased's body had marks of torture and assault.

"There is evidence of torture, cuts on her body and when you look at her, you can see that her body was hit by a blunt object," the lawyer said in a statement.

The deceased had been in Mombasa for two months after she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in April.

The family plans to conduct a postmortem to establish the cause of Najma's death.

The body of the deceased was taken to Coast General Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
