Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko now says a woman who sued him for child upkeep is looking for money to party, and not to take care of the child.

In a post on social media on Monday, May 23, 2022, Sonko asked the woman to bring the 15-year-old to him to be taken care of, whether the child was his or not.

The politician who is seeking to become Mombasa governor in the August polls claimed that the woman, identified as CD, also made similar claims against the father of her two other children, pushing him to take away the children.

"Am kindly asking the lady alleging that she has my 15 years old kid to bring the kid to me just the same way her two other kids (names withheld) were recently taken from her by her ex-boyfriend who now stays with them at Langata (sic). I’ll give the kid the best of what life has to offer," SOnko wrote.

"Hata mtoto awe si wangu amlete tu kwangu ata saii nitamlea vizuri. (Even if the child is not mine let her bring her even now I will take care of her (the child))."

In the suit, the woman is seeking Ksh448,450 monthly, which entails a monthly maintenance fee of over Ksh400,000 in order for her to meet the needs of the girl.

Pending determination of the case, she wants Sonko compelled to pay school fees of Ksh86,000 and another Ksh30,450 to cater for school-related expenses and uniform and provide medical cover and upkeep for the girl.

She also wants Sonko compelled to clear an outstanding school fees balance of Ksh37,000.

“Sonko has failed, refused and or neglected to provide for a minor with adequate and or basic necessities such as education, good health, food, clothing, shelter, entertainment and medication,” the woman stated in her court documents.

The woman states that the minor is a Form Two student and has not reported back to school after reopening on April 26.
