Deputy President William Ruto, on Wednesday, slammed Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata for contributing Ksh 40,000 in a fundraiser.

At the time, Ruto was leading a fund drive at Gatunyu Grounds in Murang'a County where he launched a Ksh 100 million kitty to support disadvantaged learners in the region.

During the fundraiser, Kang'ata gave out Ksh 40,000 for the kitty. The DP, however, declined to take his contribution, challenging him to raise more funds.

Ruto told Kang'ata, who declared his interest in vying for Murang'a gubernatorial seat, that his political ambitions to be a governor did not match the amount he was giving.

"Si unataka kuwa gavana? Hapana...Ksh 40,000 haitoshi gavana ...Enda tafuta Ksh100,000 ulete. Acha kusumbua sisi, gavana yupi was ksh40,000 (How can you contribute Ksh40,000 yet you have declared your interest to run for gubernatorial seat? A governor can't contribute Ksh40,000, you will have to bring Ksh100,000)," Ruto told Kang'ata.

Following the fundraiser, Ruto said that Kenya can only develop through education. He said that through his Bottom-Up Economic Model the country will attain equitable education disparity.

"Education for all is the most valuable investment we can make to build a more prosperous and equitable Kenya. Appreciating its potential in firing up the progressive Bottom-Up Economic Model, United Democratic Alliance commit to expanding and improving access to a basic right," he said.

"At Gatunyu Grounds in Murang’a County, launched the Wakili Edward Muriu Pesa Mfukoni Bursary Fund, an Sh100-Million kitty that will support 10,000 disadvantaged learners in Gatanga Constituency," he added.
