Worry as Maseno University student found murdered, dumped in roadside ditch

Police in Kisumu are investigating circumstances under which a 22-year-old University student was murdered on Saturday.

The third-year student identified as James Omollo who was pursuing Systems Information is said to have come from a drinking joint with three of his colleagues when the unfortunate incident happened.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu West OCPD David Nyabuto told K24 Digital that the trio left each other to go to rest, however, the following morning, they couldn't trace their friend.

"That was when they immediately launched a search for him and found him abandoned on the trench after being stabbed in the back with a knife," he said.

The OCPD informed us that the matter was immediately reported at Maseno police station.

He also said that police officers from Maseno visited the scene and took the body of the deceased to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching And Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.

After a thorough investigation by the DCI, Nyabuto said that an issue emerged that the deceased might have quarrelled over a phone with another student.

"From his phone which was found at the scene, there was a threatening message that he would be killed by another person whom we also suspect to be a student," he added.

No arrests have been made so far but the police boss says they are still continuing with their investigations.

"From the information that we have, we may arrest some students who are connected with the issue for questioning," he said.
