A man who recently proposed to his now fiancée says he ended up leaving their engagement dinner early after his future bride’s ‘obsession’ with her pet dog tipped him over the edge.

According to this fed-up hubby-to-be, his partner positively dotes on her five-year-old Golden Retriever mix. She’s previously even turned down jobs that wouldn’t permit her to work from home, solely because she’d be too concerned about the dog’s welfare.

The 28-year-old groom works from home three days a week and says his other half will only ever text him to enquire about how the dog is - appearing to show little interest in his own wellbeing.

Last weekend, to celebrate their engagement, he planned a canine-free trip away for them both, booking them a room at a nice hotel and making romantic restaurant reservations. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to make it a “wonderful weekend”, things didn’t exactly go to plan. The dismayed groom said a close friend had agreed to dogsit the pampered pooch, and his fiancée had asked her to send over a text update every two hours.

That didn’t prove to be enough for the nervous dog mum, whose fretting ultimately ended up ruining what should have been a very special evening. He wrote: “We had reservations for 7pm at the restaurant. My fiancée didn’t get ready until 6:40pm as she hadn’t heard from the sitter.
