Two social workers who were accused of stealing infants at Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital have a case to answer.

According to court documents, the two; Fred Leparan and Selina Adundo, employees of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), allegedly stole the three infants aged eight days, two weeks and two months.

The court heard that the incident occurred between March 1, 2020, and November 20 the same year.

This was after an investigative story that revealed footage of how the two received payment from the deal.

According to the director and producer of the piece dubbed 'The baby stealers' Lepran received three bundles of Ksh100,00.

While appearing before Magistrate Esther Kimilu, he told the court that the accused had asked the interested party not to get to the hospital to reduce suspicion.

He noted that the baby was delivered to the 'buyers' car instead so as to avoid raising suspicion.

While issuing the ruling, Magistrate Kimilu alluded that the case was proven beyond reasonable doubt that the two failed to protect the infants as they should have.

In their defence, the two pledged to hand out evidence; One of the accused said he will give unsworn evidence while his co-accused told the court he will present sworn evidence.

The case will be heard on March 7, 2023.
