The government will award a Ksh200,000 bonus to each player in the Kenya Women’s 3×3 basketball team for the 21-20 victory over hosts Egypt in the final of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2023 held in Cairo.

The reward to the team now set for the Paris Olympics was announced by Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

"It’s Ksh200,000 each to the Kenya 3x3 basketball ladies for conquering Africa. CS @AbabuNamwamba has announced a reward to the Kenya 3x3 basketball women's team for winning the Africa Championship Cup in Cairo, to qualify for the Universality One Olympic Qualifier," the ministry said.

The Kenyan team, consisting of Hildah Indasi, Madina Okot, Mercy Wanyama, and tournament MVP Natalie Mwangale put up a good show throughout the competition.

While both Kenya and Egypt were undefeated on their journey to the final, Egypt initially held the advantage in the decisive final match.

With Egypt just steps away from victory with a 19-13 lead, Kenya staged a remarkable comeback. Natalie Mwangale, who had been outstanding throughout the tournament, sealed the improbable win for Kenya with a buzzer-beating two-pointer.

Madina Okot stood out in the game with an impressive 11-point, 18-rebound performance.

Mwangale's consistent excellence, both offensively and defensively, made Kenya a formidable force, earning her the MVP award.
