Woman jumps on steering wheel amidst quarrel with matatu driver, drives to her own death in Laikipia

A woman lost her life on Sunday morning following a fatal road accident that occurred after she struggled with the driver in Laikipia County.

Jackline Wairimu Nyokabi, 26, who was seated on the co-driver's seat is said to have differed with the driver identified as Mohamud Mwanzo, 25, and she started struggling with the steering.

“On reaching the location of the accident, an argument arose between the driver and the lady held onto the steering and struggled with the driver. As a result, the vehicle lost control and landed on its left side off the right side of the road,” a police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

Due to the impact, Nyokabi died on the spot while the driver and another passenger Charity Mwangi, 21, escaped unhurt.

Police said that the car was being driven from Nyeri towards Laikipia.

The vehicle was towed and detained at the station yard pending inspection.

The lifeless body was taken to Nanyuko Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting Postmortem.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority over 3000 lives have been lost through road accidents in the last one year.

It further revealed that reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, drunk walking, drunk riding, failure to use helmets among other issues have been attributed to the increase in crashes.
