Woman in court for stealing over Ksh834K from KDF canteen

A woman is in court for allegedly stealing over Ksh834,000 from the Kenya Defence Forces' canteen.

Faith Njoki Gachagua,37, who has been arraigned at Milimani law courts is alleged that on February 17, 2020, she dishonestly received Ksh834,098 in her Equity bank account from defence forces.

"Faith Njoki Gachagua you are charged that on May 27, 2020, at Equity Bank in Kitale within the republic of Kenya dishonesty received Ksh834,098 in your account number 0330279823167 in the name of Asper Kenya domiciled at Equity bank Kitale branch knowing or having reasons to believe them to be stolen goods "read the charge sheet in part. 

According to her statement to the police, she claims that she has never done any business with the Defence Forces but acknowledged to have been the owner of the company which was paid the said amount.

Her lawyer pleaded for leniency saying the accused is a mother and a farmer and will abide by all terms set by the court.

The accused pleaded not guilty before magistrate Martha Nazushi and was ordered to pay a bond of Ksh 600,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh200,000.
