Woman escapes from police cell in Kayole

Police in Kayole Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a remandee who escaped while at Kayole Police station after she was brought in from Makadara Law Court on Monday, November 14, 2022.

32-year-old Veronica Mutheu a residence of Villa Embakasi had been arrested by the OCS for stealing and was escorted at Makadara Law Court on the same day.

A miscellaneous application was made and the case had been scheduled for mention on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Mutheu was in the company of two police constables (Philip Kipsang and Alex Ndong’) in the vehicle that had been used to take her to and from the court.

On coming back to Kayole Police station, the two officers were joined by three more colleagues and the fourth one from Hurlingham police post.

Constable Wachira Daniel and Philip Kipsang who were on board the vehicle with the prisoner alighted at Kayole Police station.

According to Wachira, the prisoner escaped unnoticed near the entrance of the police station gate.

A prisoner escape file has since been opened and all officers called to be on the radar as members of the public have been called to inform if they trace her anywhere.

“Constable Daniel Wachira who was on duty escorted prisoners to court in the company of two other Officers in GK Registration No. GKB Y to Makadara Law Court. One Prisoner identified as Veronica Mutheu aged 32 with a fair complexion is reported to have escaped after they came back to Kayole Police station,” the police report stated in part.

This comes a day after a mentally unstable man died while in Police cells at Karen Police station.

The 40-year-old Moris Kiambi was found dead by the officer on duty who was checking the inmates in the cells.

Kiambi had been locked in police cell the previous day for the offence of stealing.
