Police in Kisii County have arrested a woman in her 30s accused of hiring thugs to kill her husband.

The woman confessed to have sought the services of thugs to eliminate her spouse on Wednesday night after the husband, 42, communicated plans to reunite with his first wife, who had left her matrimonial home nine years ago due to unending domestic dispute.

James Nyamao, the deceased’s brother, told K24 Digital that his sibling, Nelson Mogire Nyamao, a resident of Matunwa, Kiogoro Location in Kisii County, was in the process of building his estranged first wife a house within the compound, when he was killed.

Three thugs armed with pangas and other crude weapons stormed the deceased’s house on Wednesday night (June 24), and fatally hacked the owner of the house, Mogire, before fleeing.

Neighbours, who heard commotion emanating from the deceased’s house, rushed to the scene, and found the deceased’s wife looking at her partner’s body, which was oozing blood from the cut parts. The body lay next to a bed in the couple’s bedroom.

On interrogating her, the woman appeared fidgety, neighbours said.

The neighbours threatened to set the woman on fire if she failed to speak the truth. It was at that point that the deceased’s partner, identified only as Judith, a mother of two, confessed that she had hired the thugs to kill her husband after the spouse refused to rescind his decision of bringing back his first wife.

Judith, thereafter, led the neighbours to a thicket near the compound, where the thugs left the blood-stained weapons they had used to kill their victim.

As neighbours planned to lynch the woman, area chief arrived and called police, who arrested the mother of two.

Another suspect, one of the thugs who took part in the murder, has also been arrested, and are being held at Kiogoro Police Station.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
