A 65-year-old woman has come out to allege that late veteran politician, Simeon Nyachae, sired two children with her.

Margaret Kerubo Chweya, who has lived in the United States of America (USA) the better part of her life, claims Nyachae sired two sons with her, the elder one being “over 40 years old”, whereas the younger one being “over 30 years old”.

Speaking to K24 Digital at her rural home in Kitutu Central in Kitutu Chache South Sub-County, Kisii County on Tuesday, February 16, Kerubo said she first met Nyachae in 1973 at Jogoo House, where she performed menial duties.

“I got employed at Jogoo House in 1972 as a junior staff member. I couldn’t do the white-collar jobs because of my limited education; I had dropped out in Form Two,” she said.

“When I shared my woes with Nyachae, whom I met in 1973, he offered to help me further my education, and also mentor me.”

Kerubo said what began as a plutonic relationship advanced to a romantic one in subsequent years, resulting in Kerubo moving in with Nyachae at his Njoro Farm home in Nakuru County.

“In 1984, whenever he visited his Njoro wheat farm, he would ask me to tag along,” she said.

Kerubo said she considers herself one of Nyachae’s widows because she was "married to him under a customary arrangement". Nyachae, as per family records, was married to six wives.

“1984 marked the beginning of what I considered a formal relationship between Nyachae and I.

“While in Nairobi, he and I would drive to work together and leave for home in the evening together,” said Kerubo, who claims that Nyachae bought her a house adjacent to his in Loresho.

“He was really supportive; he paid for my food, clothes, utilities and every other kind of bill that I incurred.”

Kerubo claims that Nyachae, who was a crusader for good education, arranged her travel to the US, where she furthered her education.

“While in the US, he would visit me often. He constantly reminded that I was his wife,” she said, adding: “Nyachae loved me dearly.”

On her two sons, Kerubo said she conceived them before flying abroad. The children, whom she alleges were sired by Nyachae, are named Nyandusi and Chweya.

“Rodney Chweya Nyachae is in his 40s, while Brian Nyandusi is in his 30s,” she said.

Kerubo claims that she returned to Kenya in November 2020 after learning that Nyachae was ailing. She alleges she was, on several occasions, stopped by Nyachae’s family from visiting him in hospital.

“My attempts to see him were frustrated by his family,” she said.

Kerubo says she wants to be recognised as one of Nyachae’s widows, and his vast estate be shared with her and her children.

“My attempts to seek an out-of-public settlement with Nyachae’s wives have hit a snag,” she said, adding: “that’s why I have resorted to speak publicly.”

Nyachae, a former Cabinet Minister, was buried on Monday, February 15 at his Nyosia home in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County, during a private ceremony attended by close family members and friends.

The burial followed a State funeral service at Gusii Stadium that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as well as Senator Gideon Moi of KANU.

Nyachae was initially admitted to The Nairobi Hospital for one week, but was then airlifted to London where he did not recover as expected.

Nyachae died on February 1, 2021 at the age of 88, as reported by his family, five days short from his 89th birthday.
