Police in Bondo, Siaya County, have arrested a middle-aged woman for attempting to sell her two children.

The suspect, Zaidi Hassan, said to be a Tanzanian national, on Thursday evening publicly hawked her children aged 1 and 4 at a Bondo Town vehicle parking space.

Hassan shouted at the passersby who cared to listen that she was selling her children, and that one went for Ksh60, 000 and the other Ksh55, 000.

Shocked onlookers reported her to police, who arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect.

Bondo Sub-County community policing committee chairperson, Juma Abuko, said that Hassan claimed she was selling her children because “life has become financially unbearable”.

Hassan allegedly told authorities that she had, previously, sold her two other children in Kisumu.

She said her search for market began in Busia, then Kisumu and finally in Bondo.

She will be arraigned on Monday.
