W***n answering the call dies after toilet sinks

A middle-aged woman from Uthiini Village in Kawethei Location in Kangundo, Machakos County died on Wednesday morning after a toilet she was in caved in.

The woman died on the spot, her mother-in-law Mary Nyiva told K24 Digital.

“I heard a very loud bang in the morning. When I went to look, I discovered that my daughter-in-law had fallen into the pit latrine, resulting in her instant death,” Nyiva said.

It is suspected that the latrine’s loose cover slab led to the toilet sinking.

The deceased was removed from the filled pit and moved to Kangundo hospital morgue.

In another similar incident that happened less than one month ago in the same area, a student at Muisuni Girls’ High School in Kangundo died after a pit latrine at the school caved in.

Heavy rains pounding the area is suspected to be loosening the cover slabs.
