Police in Kisumu have launched a search for two young men who killed their father’s 29-year-old lover in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Mercy Akinyi, alias Nyar Suba, was beaten to death at 3am after the suspects found her in bed with their 65-year-old father. The incident happened at the old man’s house in Got Kowak area, Nyalenda in Kisumu County.

It is alleged that the brothers, said to be in their 20s, accused Akinyi of being the reason their father had abandoned their seriously ill mother who is under intensive care at a Kisumu hospital.

The suspects also claimed their dad had not informed them of Akinyi’s existence in his life.

Upon discovering that Akinyi was with their father early Wednesday, the young men joined hands to beat her up.

“They mercilessly bludgeoned her (Akinyi) to death,” said a source.

On realising that they had inflicted grievous injuries on Akinyi, the brothers took her to a nearby private health facility, but they were referred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Doctors at the private health clinic in Dunga area declined to attend to the woman, suspecting that the two men had a hand in her injuries,” a source told K24 Digital.

The suspects, who used a boda boda to transport Akinyi to hospital, told the rider that that they found the woman lying unconscious on the roadside.

Kisumu Central OCPD, Martha Ng’etich, told K24 Digital that they have since arrested the suspected killers’ father as a search for the brothers continue.

“We arrested him (father) when he came to file a report about his lover’s death,” said Ng’etich.

Akinyi, who was allegedly 3 months pregnant, and her elderly lover, a retired teacher, met months ago at a bar in Kisumu, and kick-started their love affair.

The two are said to have met at a drinking joint on Tuesday evening before the man invited her to spend the night in his house.

Akinyi is reported to have struggled with her assailants before they overpowered her, pinned her to the ground, punched, stoned, and, thereafter, hacked her with machetes.

Akinyi sustained deep cuts in the neck and head.

The deceased leaves behind a 10-year-old son.
