Nancy Wacera Wanjiku before court.

A 28-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to false declaration charges pressed against her.

Nancy Wacera Wanjiku is alleged to have committed the offence 9 years ago at immigration offices in Nakuru County while applying for a Kenyan passport.

In March 2012, it is said that she knowingly declared in the passport application form that she was born on January 13t 1990, yet it is untrue.

In March this year, while renewing her passport at Nyayo House immigration offices in Nairobi, she presented a birth certificate which indicated she was born on January 13th 1993.

Confirmation from the IPRS immigration database showed that her correct date of birth is January 13th, 1993.

While mitigating before chief Magistrate Francis Andayi for sentencing Nancy told the court her 2012 passport was procured by an agent who had recruited her for a job in Saudi Arabia.

"It was not my intention to change my birth date, am a first time offender, I pray for mercy" she lamented

The Chief Magistrate considered her plea of being a first-time offender and asked the probation officer to file a pre-sentencing report by May 7th.
