The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has moved to the Court of Appeal to block the release of convicts, MP John Waluke and Grace Wakhungu, on cash bail.

On Wednesday, DPP Haji filed a notice of appeal against the High Court ruling that ordered the Sirisia MP and his co-convict Wakhungu granted Sh10 million and Sh20 million cash bail respectively.

The duo sought to be freed pending the hearing and determination of their appeal against their long jail sentences after they were convicted of corruption-related charges.

Haji in his notice of appeal said that he is dissatisfied by Justice John Onyiengo's ruling.

Waluke and Wakhungu were handed 67 and 69 years in jail respectively after they were found guilty of corruption in a maize scandal in which the National Cereal and Produce Board lost millions of shillings to their company.
