Two bhang traffickers have been slapped with a 50-year jail term and an extra fine of Ksh60 million by a court in Wajir.

In a statement by DCI, the two appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Mugendi Nyagah.

The two; Mohammed Oloo and Abraham Hassan had been arrested on April 4, 2021, after being intercepted at Athibool in Wajir county while ferrying 700kgs of the illegal drug to Nairobi.

The consignment of Cannabis Sativa said to be worth Ksh21 million was carefully sealed in bags of cement.

"The lorry ferrying the consignment had been divided into compartments at the top, where the drug disguised as bags of cement was carefully concealed," part of the statement by the DCI read.

Notably, one of the accused persons; Abraham Hassan was absent during the court session and his Ksh1 million bond was forfeited to the State. A warrant for his arrest has since been issued.

On the other hand, the owner of the lorry used to ferry the illegal drugs 'has been granted 14 days to show cause why the lorry should not be forfeited to the state.'
