Wajir East MP Rashid Kasim Amin on Thursday morning walked a free man after the court acquitted him in an assault case.

The trial Magistrate Martha Nanzushi said that the complainant Wajir Woman Representative, Fatima Gedi Ali withdrew the complaint against the MP.

While seeking withdrawal, Gedi told the court that they since settled the matter out of the court and no further prosecution should ensue against the MP.

She never disclosed to the court the issue in question that led to their difference that resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the MP

After the court session Gedi while addressing journalists outside Milimani law courts said that the withdraw of the case against the MP is a result of the handshake and commended President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga for paving the path of handshakes.

However the MP's lawyer, Samson Nyamberi has congratulated the two and thanked the court for tackling the matter honourably. He has also thanked the media for following through with the proceedings.

At least five witnesses had testified in the case including Hon. Gladys Wanga.

Kassim had been charged with assaulting the Wajir Woman at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi County in 2019.
