Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah now claims his opponents are spying on him.

Speaking to K24TV on Monday, July 18, 2022, Wajackoyah alleged that the two leading presidential candidates --- Raila Odinga of the Azimio - One Kenya coalition and Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto --- have planted spies in his office.

"Both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio have planted spies in my office. I have two that I know of," the candidate said.

Wajackoyah, however, said he is smarter than the supposed spies and their agents.

"You know I was a spy before. So if you send a mediocre to spy on somebody who has been a spy... I can't chase them away, I just play with them as a cat plays with a rat," he claimed.

The candidate, who has promised to decriminalise marijuana (bhang) if elected in August, further insisted that he was offered Ksh200 million to drop out of the race.

"The people who offered me Ksh200 million wanted me to spoil votes for a certain Presidential candidate by campaigning in his territory. There are boys I am fighting for in the streets. If I take that money, don't you think they'll kill me?" he posed.

The accomplished lawyer claimed last month that a cabal of influential personalities that approached him with the cash offer is hell-bent on ensuring he withdraws from the presidential contest.

The candidate also dismissed recent polls by Infotrak and Tifa showing that the two candidates are doing better than him.

"Those are opinion polls without foundation and they are here to mislead Kenyans. I hereby join Ruto in denouncing them even though I don't agree with him on many fronts," Wajackoyah stated.

A poll released by Infotrak last week showed that Wajackoyah has an approval rate of 4 per cent. The firm said Raila is the most popular candidate at 43 per cent. Ruto was ranked second with 37 per cent popularity and Agano party's David Mwaure third with 0.1 per cent.

Wajackoyah threatens to skip presidential debate

At the same time, Wajackoyah threatened to skip the presidential debate slated for July 26, if he won't be paired with the two candidates.

"I am not attending the presidential debate unless I am paired with Ruto and Raila. I am more popular in Nairobi than any of these people. I will win this election without debate," he added.

The debate will be conducted in two tiers, with the first featuring candidates who garnered 5 per cent and below, in the recent polls, and the second with candidates whose ratings are above 5 per cent.
