Roots Party of Kenya presidential candidate George Wajackoyah failed to convince Supreme Court judges on Tuesday, August 30, after he applied to be enjoined as an interested party in the ongoing presidential petition.

Despite being one of the presidential candidates in the August 9 general election, Wajackoyah was told he could have filed his independent petition before the August 22 deadline given by Supreme Court for parties to file presidential petitions.

“I am a presidential candidate and I was here in the morning, my legal counsels were here in the morning but they were asked to go back.

“What I want to beg or pray for is I be given an opportunity to be enjoined to speak through my counsel," Wajackoyah said.

The Roots Party boss had been enjoined as an interested party by one of the eight petitioners before Supreme Court.

“I am the most aggrieved person here apart from those who are interested parties in the petitions. I ran for this election and I am seriously injured and should be given a chance to be heard.

“Please let’s look beyond the mirror so that justice can be done," he stated.

However, Justice Mohammed Ibrahim dismissed his plea.

“You are a presidential candidate and we give you all the respect. Many Kenyans admire you. However, under the law, if you are aggrieved you have the first opportunity to file the petition.

“You did not and unfortunately, you lost the opportunity and you have to bear the consequences," Justice Ibrahim told Wajackoyah.
