A Republican lawmaker has won a seat in the North Dakota state legislature - nearly a month after he died of complications from Covid-19.

David Andahl died on October 5, aged 55, after winning a hotly-contested primary with an incumbent Republican committee chairman.

Andahl and another Republican won the two seats for state representatives from North Dakota’s eighth district, with Andahl taking about 36 percent of the vote.

The district has two representatives and both beat their two Democratic challengers.

According to the New York Post, Andahl died after being hospitalised with coronavirus disease for about four days.
