The University of Nairobi has increased tuition fees for some of its courses in order to make ends meet following a cash deficit after a shortfall in student enrollment.
A spot check on the new fees structure of the university by K24 Digital on Monday, July 12 revealed that the UoN doubled fees for some its postgraduate courses and self sponsored programs.
For instance, fees for a masters degree in communication which runs for two years was raised from Ksh275,000 to over Ksh600,000.

Fees for degree courses like law, bachelor of commerce and economics under the self sponsored program have been raised to about Ksh1 million.
According to the university, only new students joining the school will be affected by the changes in cost of tuition fees.
UoN argues that the review in tuition fees will see the university raise its revenue after a loss over Ksh1 billion in fees in three years.
The university arrived at the review of tuition fees for postgraduate and self sponsored students after undergraduate students sponsored by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) opposed fees increment.
Studying medicine at the University will now cost students over Ksh3 million from Ksh2.3 million.
Those seeking to study law will have to part with an extra Ksh300,000 from the initial fee of Ksh715,000.
The cost of studying Engineering on the other hand has been raised by about Ksh1 million.
