UK MP stabbed multiple times, in constituency meeting

A British MP has been stabbed multiple times at a constituency meeting in Essex.

Sir David Amess, who represents Southend West in Essex, was attacked at the constituency meeting in Leigh-on-Sea.

A man is understood to have walked into Belfairs Methodist Church and knifed him multiple times.

The 69-year-old is said to be receiving treatment at the scene.

Armed police have now swooped on the church following the horror at around 1pm.

His condition was not immediately known, but police have now confirmed the MP has sadly passed away after the attack.

A police statement said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm today.

Stunned MPs have condemned the horror as the horrific news spread today.

A planned interview with Boris Johnson which was due to take place today has also been cancelled.
