Uasin Gishu County may be put on lockdown if the rapid increase of covid-19 infection cases continues, the county Governor Jackson Mandago has warned.

Mandago said unless the residents took seriously the Ministry of Health containment measures to stem the spread, the county may be put on lockdown just like Nakuru, Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado have been.

Locals must take seriously the health protocols put in place to contain the spread of the deadly pandemic to avoid putting the county under the list of disease risk zones, said Mandago.

The county boss expressed fear over the increasing numbers of people testing Covid -19 positive may force President Uhuru Kenyatta's hand.

While addressing the nation last week in Nairobi, President Kenyatta declared Nairobi Metropolitan counties diseased-zones and ordered cessation of movement.

The governor echoed an appeal by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe calling on people hoarding oxygen cylinders in their homes to surrender them to public hospitals to save lives.
