US Embassy in Kenya has issued another security alert to its citizens in Kisumu ahead of the Supreme Court ruling which is set for Monday, September 5.

The embassy cautions that the outcome could cause widespread disruption in Raila Odinga's backyard owing to the previous reactions and has asked Americans to remain vigilant.

"Election-related demonstrations and rallies regularly take place after elections, at times blocking key intersections and causing traffic jams.  Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention.  Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the U.S. Embassy has imposed movement restrictions on U.S. government personnel in Kisumu. The State Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for sustained vigilance," part of the statement read.

Henceforth, they have advised American citizens to monitor local media for updates, avoid crowds, and demonstrations and keep a low profile.

Also, they have been asked to be aware of their surroundings, be vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs and not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive jewellery or watches.

They should review personal security plans, have travel documents up to date and easily accessible and carry proper identification, including a copy of the bio-page of their U.S. passport with a copy of a current Kenyan visa.

This is the second time the embassy has issued the security advisory.

The advisory comes two days after the US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman's visit to Kisumu.
