Kayole: Two thugs fatally shot by police after robbing residents

Two middle-aged men were fatally shot while two escaped with gunshot wounds in Kangure slums on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Prior to the incident, police who were on patrol in the Kosovo area of Kayole were approached by two members of the public who informed them that they had been robbed of their phones and other valuables at gunpoint. The officers immediately swung into action and pursued the thugs.

Shortly after, they bumped into the four men and ordered them to surrender. However, the thugs defied the officers' orders and pointed a gun at them forcing police to open fire killing two members of the gang as the others scampered for safety with gunshot wounds.

"While on patrol in the Kosovo area, police officers received information from the public that they had been robbed by a gang. They pursued them along Komarock High School and bumped into a gang of four men. They were ordered to surrender and defied the orders and instead pointed a gun-like item at the officers. This prompted the officers to fatally shoot two as two others escaped to the nearby slum," the police report seen by K24 Digital reads in part.

"They recovered a mini-pistol make ECO Tuna serial number ET 12420903, an empty magazine, a homemade pistol capable of firing, a Maasai sword, and four assorted mobile phones, one for the members of the public who reported,” the police report added.

Efforts to arrest the runaway culprits are underway as police continue with investigations while the two bodies were taken to the city mortuary.

Separate incident

This comes a few days after a 17-year-old minor was beaten by a mob after he was accused of stealing a mobile phone in Kayole.

The deceased identified as Anthony Kihara while in the company of two others who escaped unhurt was accused of stealing a mobile phone from a member of the public and the public retaliated by beating him.

Kihara was later rescued by good Samaritans who rushed him to Mama Lucy Hospital with multiple body injuries. He later succumbed while receiving treatment.
