Two suspected carjackers were on Sunday, August 1, gunned down by police officers in Kilimani area, Nairobi, after refusing to surrender.

The incident happened around 10 pm

According to a report by the DCI, the two suspects had subdued a taxi driver and his client in Kilimani’s Chania Avenue before robbing them of their mobile phones and taking control of their Toyota Vitz.

When planning to escape, police officers arrived in time, after receiving a distress call, and ordered them to surrender.

The two defied the orders and instead opted to engage the police officers in a shootout.

“As the suspects were bolting out after what they believed was a successful mission, police officers blocked their way ordering them to surrender. But with three guns in hand, the suspects defied the lawful order and opened fire frenziedly as they took to their heels. The officers tactically responded with rapid shots, fatally injuring the duo,” read the DCI report.,

Four mobile phones including the two stolen from the victims were recovered alongside the three guns hosting six unspent rounds.

The victims were taken to safety as the remains of the suspected carjackers were taken to City Mortuary pending identification.
