Three people were reportedly shot dead by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Chebarus, Turbo sub-county Uasin Gishu county.

The shooting incident occurred after angry residents confronted the soldiers who were on a mission to demarcate a disputed parcel of land.

The irate locals engaged the officers after they declined to respond to their queries about the land demarcation.

In an interview with a local newspaper, one of the residents said that the soldiers invaded the piece of land in question without seeking permission from relevant authorities.

“We were forced to respond after the soldiers invaded the said area without seeking permission from relevant authorities," the area resident said.

Uasin Gishu County commander Ayub Gitonga said the soldiers were surveying the land being occupied by locals after the parties had come to a consensus about the land's occupation a day before.

Gitonga said a group of people incited the locals, attracting the area residents, a move that forced the soldiers to lob teargas and shoot in the air to scare away the piling crowd.
