Two police officers were on Sunday, December,5, 2021 arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in Bungoma county for demanding for bribes.

Charles Ogolla and Onesmus Kiprop who are attached to Kandunyi Police post in Bungoma County were nabbed by the EACC officials.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the duo demanded for a sum of Ksh 4,000 from a member of the public in order to release a motorbike that legally belonged to him.

“The two officers both of Kandunyi police post under Bungoma police station had demanded a sum of Ksh 4,000 from a member of the public namely Samuel Maruk whose motorcycle of registration number KMRJ 355C had been detained,” the report read in part.

It further revealed that the motorbike was being detained on suspicion that it had been stolen.

It has since been established that the motorbike was released to the owner after senior officers intervened in the case.

The owner then went to the EACC offices after proving that he was the legitimate owner of the motorcycle and filed a complaint.

He said that he had given out Ksh 3,500 in notes of Ksh 1,000 and a Ksh 500 note.

“Upon searching, they managed to recover only Ksh 600 in 500 and 100 notes denomination from Police constable Charles Ogolla,” the report further revealed.

However, the two officers complained that they had been manhandled by the EACC officers as they made the arrest.

Kiprop sustained bruises on his face and Ogolla complained of pains from his right leg which has a stiff plate.

The EACC officers kept the cash they found from the officers for examination and comparison as they prepared a file.

The duo is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, December 6.
