Residents of Shamakhokho village, Jivoji Sub location in Hamisi Sub County are in shock after two coffins were found in the area on Monday morning.

Area Assistant Chief Mrs. Esther Mirenja confirmed the incredible incident when she spoke to Kenya News Agency (KNA).

According to Mirenja, one of the small coffins was dumped in the compound of one of the local residents, only identified as Aggrey, while the other was found at the doorstep of Jivoji PAG church.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the coffins contained chicken feathers soaked in blood.

“The other was empty but with inscriptions of Sh8, 000,” said a local at the scene and who sought anonymity.

He added that the one dumped at Aggrey’s compound was too small to fit any human body.

“We are yet to establish the real motive behind the shocking incident,” said Mirenja who did not rule out witchcraft.

She appealed to members of the public to remain calm and assured them security agencies will investigate the matter.

The assistant chief at the same time warned of dire consequences for individuals planning to cause any form of harm to any member of the society.

“Though we haven’t had any cases of family feuds in recent past that would necessitated such kind of threats which border on witchcraft,” said Mirenja.

The grassroots administrator confirmed she had already reported the matter at Serem Police Station but security officers had not arrived at the scene by time of filing the story.
